The Art of Chanderi: Weaving Heritage into Modern Fashion

There’s something almost meditative about Chanderi. Every thread is touched by hand, every weave holds a story. Born in the quiet town of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, this fabric has been crafted by generations of artisans who still work on traditional pit looms.

The Process - Where Time Slows Down

The process is slow and intentional, handspun cotton and silk yarns are first dyed in soft, natural tones, then carefully set on the loom.
With steady hands and practiced rhythm, each piece takes days, sometimes weeks.

Evolution Over Time - From Royal Courts to Everyday Wardrobes

Centuries ago, Chanderi was worn by royalty and nobility, loved for its shimmer and transparency.
Today, it’s finding new meaning, woven into modern silhouettes that fit how we live now.

At Industale, we reimagine Chanderi beyond the saree. You’ll find it in easy co-ord sets, breezy overlays, that move effortlessly through your day.
Each design is our way of bridging the old and the new, keeping the soul of Chanderi alive while giving it space to evolve.

What Makes Chanderi One-of-a-Kind

You’ll know a Chanderi fabric the moment you touch it - light as air, slightly crisp, with a subtle golden sheen that catches the sun just right.
Its beauty lies in its transparency, fine texture, and natural luster. Unlike machine-made textiles, every handwoven Chanderi has small irregularities, those are not flaws, they’re fingerprints of the maker. That’s what makes each piece special.

Care & Maintenance

Chanderi is delicate, but not fragile. A little care goes a long way.
Here’s how to make yours last a lifetime:

  • Always dry-clean to protect the zari and finish.

  • If you prefer to hand wash, use cold water and a mild detergent, and never twist or wring.

  • Dry in shade - sunlight can fade its natural sheen.

  • Store each piece in a muslin cloth, allowing it to breathe and preventing zari from tarnishing.

  • Iron on low heat from the reverse side.

Handled with love, your Chanderi only gets softer, richer, and more beautiful with time.
