    ✷ About Ikat Weave

Ikat isn’t just a fabric. It’s a technique, one of the oldest dyeing traditions in the world. The word “ikat” itself comes from the Indonesian word meaning“to tie” or “to bind.”And that’s exactly how it starts.
Instead of printing patterns on finished fabric, artisans dye the threads first, tying them off in specific sections so the dye doesn’t reach certain areas. These tied yarns are then dipped, dried, retied, dyed again, and finally woven. By the time the artisan sits at the loom, the design already lives inside the yarn waiting to appear.
