A floor-length chanderi dress in a fine gold and black stripe - close enough that from across a room it reads as one solid bronze, and only resolves into threads when someone is standing next to you.

Nothing on this dress is embroidered. The ornament is the cutting. The bodice is mitred so the stripe runs diagonally from each shoulder and meets in a V down the centre front; below the waist the skirt is built from panels, each one cut on a different angle, so the stripe turns at every seam and the light changes direction with it. A V-neck, a fitted waist, and a hem that opens out to the floor.

It is the four-minute answer to a long evening - one piece, one zip, no dupatta to manage, nothing to arrange. And gold is the one colour in this collection that is never out of place: the sangeet, the reception, the last night of the year.
