Syahi Chanderi Kurta Set - Charcoal & Maroon

A charcoal chanderi kurta set built on one long diagonal. The kurta is cut so the hem falls to a point at each side and lifts in between; the sleeves are half, finished in a band of gold sequin and moti hand embroidery; two more bands, cut as leaves, rise from the side slits. Under it, maroon pants with a fine woven stripe that runs the whole length. Over it, an organza dupatta striped in maroon, rust and gold, finished with maroon tassels.

Syahi is ink. Not black - black is flat and arrives all at once. This is the charcoal a room takes on an hour after the lamps are lit, and the maroon underneath is the red that has already been somewhere and come back.

Three pieces that do not need each other. The kurta goes over the striped pants for the evening, over a plain trouser on a Thursday; the dupatta is the whole difference between a dinner and a wedding. Gold sits only at the cuff, the slit and the dupatta's edge - the three places the set moves.
