A tissue chanderi saree woven in a check so fine it barely reads as one - black warp crossing gold, so the whole five and a half metres holds one colour and only breaks into a grid when it is close enough to touch. At the pallu it stops: a deep scalloped panel of black, hand embroidered all over in sequins, with a single motif at the point and tassels at both corners.

Zeena means ornament. The ornament is all at one end, and it is there for a reason older than decoration - the weight is what makes a pallu fall properly. The embroidery is what tells the fabric which way to hang.

Gold is the colour that belongs everywhere in this season: the morning at someone's house, the sangeet, the last party of the year. This is the one piece in the collection that will not need to be explained to anybody.
